When you are searching electrician near me or electrical repair generally people want to know, How much will this cost? Funny thing is most service websites dont give that information. You may see we have the best prices or get $50.00 off our random total. Another one is upfront pricing. Yet you get the total bill at the end. Im gonna do my best to explain pricing tricks and how to figure out what the total cost will be.
Its gonna start with a industry standard for your area. That is decided by the demand of the service or product. Each company has to figure out how they fit into that demand. As a customer you should know the price range that is fair for the service needed.
Next a company has to figure out their costs to run their business. This is where bigger companies and smaller companies prices differ greatly. If a company has commercials, multiple locations, large vehicle fleet, etc. then those costs factor company rates. A customer must decide if they need ten employees sent today or just one service tech next week. Higher overhead means a bigger invoice. Pick the size company you need properly.
The next factor will be the economy. Isnt it funny when the economy starts to drop prices go up? One reason is material prices go up. If it gets real bad companies close down. Giving you as a customer less choice. The price today probably wont be the price tomorrow. So timing of your project is important.
Now factoring the actual job cost. Its not hard to figure out labor + material = job cost. Again this will differ in bigger and smaller companies. Bigger companies usually have higher labor costs. Its because duties are usually split between different departments. One employee schedules, one employee quotes, one employee does the work, one employee invoices you, and one employee sells you the next job. Again you have to decide if the higher labor cost is needed for your electrical service, electrical installation, or electrical project.
Every industry has a sales force and that includes the electrical trade. Some electrical companies get real pushy with sales. Again this is depending on the size of the company. Bigger electrical companies need more work to support their overhead. This is when the sales tricks begin. Its one thing to sell yourself and its another to trick people. First watch for upselling. One example would be to sell you a panel when all you need is a breaker. Sometimes bigger problems are found when troubleshooting an electrical problem. Its also sometimes good to be pro active when it comes to your electrical service. This is when you have to really trust your electrician. You want a electrician not a sales-tech.
So people say the safe thing is to get three quotes. Some people literally will call ten to twenty companies for an electrical quote. This is where the sales tricks can just further confuse you. Also having input from too many sources may confuse you even more. If you dont have an electrical company you trust then more then one quote may be best. Just know you might be comparing Volts (apples) to Amps (oranges). There is always more then one way to do an electrical job. Some companies will use cheaper material to save on their costs. So make sure you are comparing electrical estimates with that in mind.
Upfront pricing is never upfront but sounds good. Every job is different. Hanging a fan at one house may be harder then at another. Reasons like box type, ceiling height, and type of fan can make the fan install price vary. What happens if the job was easier then I thought? You would still pay the set upfront price. Upfront pricing usually includes price splitting. Turning one fee into two or three. Its makes the total cost seem like less. Electrical repairs can be a situation where this may not be true. Usually electrical repairs require troublshooting. If a major problem is found then a seperate quote may need to be given. You would in that case have a troubleshooting fee and a repair fee. That is where you would watch out for upselling though.
How does TYLER YEAGER Electric, inc. price jobs? Is this electric company honest? Trying to keep fair pricing, no pressure, and honesty has been our goal from day one. We start off by finding out the customers electrical needs. We offer free advice and pricing over the phone, text, or email. If we can help you reset your gfci outlet over the phone rather then charge a service fee, we will. If an electric repair is needed then we charge a fee that covers labor for one hour. We have a one hour minimum. That is for customers in our service area. Customers located further away from our location would require 4 to 8 hours of needed work. So we would not be able to schedule one hour of work to a customer 50 miles away. Small electrical repairs can usually be fixed within one to two hours. If something major is found all your options are offered to you.
If you have an electrical project we give you an estimate based on worst case and best case. This way there is no surprises. Most companies will either give you the worst case price. Then pocket any extra money or just charge more in the end if there was a problem. If everything went smooth we charge the best case price. If a problem is found before work is done everything is explained. In this case we would be closer to the worst case price. Doing it this way protects both the customer and TYLER YEAGER Electric.
The final way we price is simply time and material. This is done for jobs with no plans or plans may change. We have an hourly rate and charge for the time worked to complete your electrical project.
